Who We Are
Hi! Welcome to Breathe Salt Therapy. My name is Lisa Prather, and I would like to take a little time to share my story with you.
I grew up in what I considered to be the best era, the 70’s!! I was a sickly child, always having tummy aches, migraines, hospitalized with a brain tumor in first grade, lead to vision issues, and body pain. Those were called growing pains. As amazing as the 70’s were, there was never clear answers for a sickly child.
As I grew into my young adult years, same health issues. Some progressed to bigger issues, with more annoying doctor appointments, and no answers. Yuck!
Then it happened! Out of nowhere, kidney failure. What in the world, I don’t have time for that! At this point in my life, I was a mommy; I could not have kidney disease! Turns out indeed I did. I had a kidney biopsy, and was diagnosed with minimal change disease. Now, on the spectrum of kidney disease, it is a very mild kidney disease. Actually, it is a kidney disease that children get, not grown adults. Children also most of the time heal from minimal change and it goes away. Not the same for adults, but I have always been a little out of the box.
I had a wonderful nephrologist that explained my options in great detail. He also trusted me to make the right decision for my body. I opted out of harsh drugs. I was told treatment would be a year of prednisone and another drug that would suppress my immune system, then we would introduce another drug to slowly bring back my immune system. That did not sound appealing to me at all! Especially after my awesome nephrologist explained serious side effects. I really didn’t know what exactly I was going to do, but I knew I didn’t want to take those drugs! During this time period, I was so sick. Bed sick for almost two months! Being sick for one day when you are mommy is difficult, much less two months.
Time went on and I finally started to feel well enough to go out into public. One day I stumbled upon a yoga studio downtown Batavia... Shine Yoga Studio.
What I experienced next is what has lead me to you. I had always been interested in yoga, but had not tried it. The day came, I tried my very first restorative yoga class. It was amazing, and I fell in love quickly with connecting and healing my own body. So what does yoga have to do with Halotherapy? Healing! Yoga opened up a new perspective to me. Natural ways to heal your body, to connect to my body, and calm down all the quirky little things that made me that sickly little girl.
Yoga introduced me to Halotherapy, Floatation, Meditation, Gluten Free, Acupressure, Reflexology, Infrared Sauna, and so much more! Lets just say, COMPLETE LIFESTYLE CHANGE!!!
Approximately three months after my kidney biopsy and lifestyle change, I was back at my nephurologist for routine tests. My doctor was amazed and asked me what I was doing differently. In fact his words were, “I don’t know what you are doing, but keep doing it. I have NEVER seen a patient drop their levels so fast”. I told him about my complete lifestyle change, all the above good stuff. His response, “Well, I am your doctor, and there is NO SCIENTIFIC STUDY to PROVE these lifestyle adjustments can heal you, but KEEP DOING IT!”
I have been in remission for almost five years, yahoo! I now only have to do routine labs once a year, and NO HARSH MEDS!!!
My desire to bring Breathe Salt Therapy to the community has been a long time in the making. I know what it means to have a safe, warming, and connecting place to heal.
We all need some type of healing. Breathe Salt Therapy is so much more than just halo therapy. It is a space created for you! I know that I am not alone in all of my quirky health issues. I know that others need to heal, just as I needed to heal. I know that we are stronger together, than suffering alone.
